MAIDAN SHAHAR (Pajhwok): The apple crop production has dropped while wheat harvest yield has markedly increased in central Maidan Wardak province, an official said on Monday.
Director Agriculture Eng. Fazal Umar told Pajhwok Afghan News that the apple production had come down to 50,000 tonnes this year from over 106,000 tonnes last year. He linked the decrease to plant diseases, cold season and snowfall.
But the wheat production touched the figure of 34,000 tonnes, which saw a 10,000 tonnes increase over last year, the official explained.
Abdul Karim, a resident of Nirkh district, said he had cultivated two acres of land with apple trees and the yield saw a two-fold fall this year. He, however, sold the apples at high prices.
