KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Security forces attacked and killed a key Haqqani network leader in southeastern Khost province on Monday, the police chief said.
Brig. Gen. Faizullah Ghairat told Pajhwok Afghan News the Haqqani network commander along with a suicide bomber was riding a motorcycle in the Kondo area when they were attacked by security forces in the afternoon.
After the commander named Syed Amin was killed, the bomber detonated his explosives, killing only himself, the police chief said.
He said Amin had been involved in training and directing suicide attacks and he was one of the network’s key leaders.
The attack was carried out in light of an intelligence report, said Ghairat, who added the security forces escaped unhurt in the blast.
A resident of the Kondo area, Nazar Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News first he heard gunshots and then a huge blast. He said some people had died in the incident, but he had no exact figure.
