LASHKARGAH (PAJHWOK): Two smugglers have been detained in southern Helmand province, the world’s largest producer of opium, an official said on Thursday.
Border police head Brig. Gen. Hamidullah Seddiqi told Pajhwok Afghan News the men were arrested with 172 kilograms of opium during a raid in the Baqat area of Khanshin district.
He added border police had launched a campaign against narcotics in southern districts of the province, making drug smugglers to Pakistan difficult. Drugs are brought from northern provinces to Helmand for smuggling to Pakistan and Iran.
