KABUL) needed reforms.
The directives came after consistent demands from civil society and international organisations for cleaning up in the electoral panel to make the exercise credible.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said Ghani had asked 2nd Vice-President Sarwar Danish to work in consultation with the election bodies, civil society members and political parties on necessary reforms.
Describing the reforms as his administration’s priority, the president also asked IEC officials to come up with recommendations in this regard. Civil society has already prepared a set of recommendations.
Reforming the electoral system has been one of the founding agreements between President Ghani and Chief Executive Dr. Abdullah. Based on this and other agreements, the national unity government was formed four month back.
