SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Militants gunned down a teacher in northwestern Jawzjan province, an official said on Saturday.
Provincial police chief Brig. Gen. Faqeer Mohammad Jawzjani told Pajhwok Afghan News that Mohammad Khan, the teacher, was shot dead by rebels in Faizabad district last night.
The motive behind the incident is unclear but police had launched investigation to ascertain facts, he said.
Abdul Qayyum, a resident, said it was the first incident of its nature in which a teacher was targeted in this area. He said all schools were open in their area even in localities under Taliban control.
“Anyone hurting a teacher is the enemy of education and Afghans,” he said.
But a Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid claimed the slain teacher was a member of an upraising group against the Taliban.
