LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): With the participation of 4,000 strong Afghan National Army (ANA) force, comprehensive anti-militants operations have been launched in northern districts of southern Helmand province, officials said Sunday.
The operation codenamed “Zulfiqar” were being carried out from Sangin district by ground forces with air support in which several localities were purged of insurgents, Umar Zwak, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The offensive, he pledged would go on till the elimination of rebels and then check posts would be established to maintain the gains of the sweeping operation.
Without sharing any details into casualties on either side, he said that it was a long-planned offensive, which was being carried out meticulously. He said that officials in Kabul were deciding how and when the support of foreign forces be called.
The sphere of the offensive would be extended to Sangin, Kajaki, Musa Kala, Nawzad and Washir districts, he informed. The 215th Maiwand Military Corps also mentioned the launch of anti-insurgents offensive in the area.
