15 major projects worth $100m to be launched in Kunduz

KABUL (Pajhwok): Fifteen development projects worth $100 million would be launched in northern Kunduz province, officials said on Wednesday.

Governor Mohammad Omar Safi told journalists the projects were aimed to promote education, orchards, micro-finance, water and investment.

He added majority of these projects would be funded with provincial revenue. A major chunk will be spent on building the 160-kilometre Shahrwan canal in Dasht-i-Archi district.

The project costing $86 million would help irrigate lands in the neighbouring provinces. Safi said the project would kick off soon and thousands of job opportunities would be created.

Asadullah Adel, economy department head, said there were still five more vital projects that needed to be completed. Construction of an airport, universities, roads and industrial parks are among them.

According to Adel, funds for these projects have not been allocated so far, although, it was necessary to complete the projects as soon as possible.
