KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday met with Farkhunda’s family, saying oppression, torture and persecution fly in the face of Islamic values.
Farkhunda, 27, was killed two weeks back by an angry mob in front of Shah Du Shamshira mosque and then her body was set on fire.
A fact-finding commission today released report by concluding that she was innocent and did not burn any copy of the holy book.
The Presidential Palace said in a statement that Ashraf Ghani met with Farkhunda’s parents and siblings. “No words can reduce the pain inflicted upon you, but the government will ensure justice is done.”
Ghani added that such kind of trouble making was unacceptable and the government was committed to provide a peaceful atmosphere for the citizens especially women and girls.
“Torture and cruelty is against the values of Islam and we won’t allow individuals to take law in their own hands,” Ghani said, adding that Farkhunda was innocent and her innocence has been proved by the commission.
