LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): A newly-construction school building, benefiting 700 students, was inaugurated in Garmser district of southern Helmand province, an official said on Friday.
Abdul Matin Jafar, the provincial education director, told Pajhwok Afghan News the structure having 12 classrooms and four administrative wards took one year to complete.
He said the building in Darweshan locality of Garmser cost 12 million afghanis and had the capacity of housing 700 students.
Jafar said there were 39 schools in Garmser, where 16,000 students, including 1,000 girls, were enrolled.
Only 26 of these schools have buildings and the rest placed in mosques or private houses.
Helmand Governor Mirza Khan Rahimi said providing better education environment to students was their top priority. He said construction of some other schools was also ongoing.
Abul Omar, Garmser district chief, said there were no closed schools in the district but their problem was lack of buildings.
Garmser is a relatively peaceful district situated near the Pakistani border.
