KANDAHAR CITY (Pajwhok): After remaining shut for eight years due to security concerns, five schools were reopened on Tuesday in Maiwand district of southern Kandahar province, an official said.
Of 17 schools in Maiwand, nine schools are open and the remaining eight have been closed for security reasons, said Hajji Abdullah, the deputy provincial education director.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News five of the eight closed schools had been reopened.
