Taliban kidnapping people to fund attacks: NDS

KABUL were raising funds for their operations through ransom money from abductions.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS commander, Qadar alias Mubariz, had recently abducted a youth, Javed, from Gardez, the capital of southeastern Paktia province.

The insurgents took him to Zurmat district and the commander demanded $500,000 in ransom from Javed’s family, the statement said.

NDS personnel detained a member of the kidnap group, Samiullah, in connection with the case, the statement said.

It concluded the Haqqani network commanders were kidnapping people to fund their disruptive activities in Afghanistan.
