Expired medicines being sold in Qalat stores

QALAT (Pajhwok): Some residents on Sunday complained about selling of expired medicines in medicine stores of Qalat, the capital of southern Zabul province.

Unprofessional people in some of medical stores in Qalat even prescribe medicines to people, endangering people’s lives, said a resident of the city, Haji Abdul Wahab.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the public health department should deal with pharmacy stores having no pharmacists in accordance with the law.

Another resident of the city, Noorullah, said expired medicines were being sold in medicine halls of the city, but there was no one to prevent it.

He purchased tablets from a medical store but when he looked at the date, the pills were expired, he said.

Some of owners of these medical stores accepted they lacked professional workers but denied selling expired medicines.

A medicine seller, Hajji Esmatullah, said he could not complete his studies in pharmacy due to bad security situation and there was no education available here in the field.

However, public health director Dr. Lal Mohammad Tokhi said they had monitoring teams who monitored all medical stores of the province after every few weeks and arrest people selling expired medicine.

The lack of professional medicine sellers is not a problem confined only to Zabul province but is common everywhere in the country.
