KABUL (Pajhwok): An Afghan National Army (ANA) soldier accused of killing a child in central Maidan Wardak province has been detained, an official said on Saturday.
Local residents alleged the ANA forces shot dead the 11 years old child named Yasir in the Shneez area of Taliban-infested Syedabad district on Thursday.
Saifullah, aninhabitant of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News the soldiers fired from a security post, killing the child. The shooting triggered a proteston Fridaywhen locals blocked the Kabul-Ghazni highway.
The governor’s spokesman, Toryali Himmat, said a delegation of security officials had been sent to Shneez for investigating the incident.
He added the ANA soldier manning the security post has been detained for interrogations.
At least 12 civilians, including 10 children, have been killed in military attacks in the past few months in Syedabad district.
Three days back, soldiers raided a hospital of the Swedish Committee for Afghanistan in the Tangi Syedan area of Daimirdad district and killed four people, including two patients.
