MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): The university entrance test exam began in northern Balkh province on Thursday, with girls making half of the candidates.

The exam would continue for four day and in total 14976 high school graduates had applied for the test, Rozatullah Majeedi, the head of a Higher Education Ministry’s delegation that arrived in Balkh to oversee the exam.

He said 2000 more qualified students than last year would be enrolled in public sector universities and 270000 candidates were expected to take the exam countrywide.

He said 7516 boys and 7460 girls had registered for the exam in Balkh province, making Balkh the only province where the number of girls and boys for the test almost equaled.

He said all students had been registered in biometric system in order to ensure the exam was transparent.

Majeedi said in the past powerful individuals would interfere in the exam process, but the practice had been prevented.

One of the exam attendees, Mursal Amamzada, who had graduated from Jalaluddin Mohammad Balkhi high school, told Pajhwok that the Ministry of Higher Education should ensure this year’s exam was transparent compared to the past.
