KABUL (Pajhwok): Kabul municipality officials on Wednesday said the Pul-i-Charkhi Prison administration was willing to pay 57 million afghanis in cleanliness tax to the municipality.

Safiullah Abadi, 12th municipal district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Pul-i-Charkhi Prison also had to pay cleanliness tax.

Taxes payable by the prison owes from 1386 solar year stood at more than 67 million afs; however, the prison had only paid 10 million afs and was unwilling to clear the remaining.

Abadi said the municipality had many times discussed the issue with the prison’s officials and even had asked them through formal letters to pay the remaining 57 million afs in taxes; but there had been no satisfactory response.

He also accused the prison’s officials of not helping the municipality in widening a road which passed near the prison.

Despite efforts, contact with Pul-i-Charkhi Prison could not be established. Lt. Gen. Abdul Haleem Kohistani, the director general of prisons, said he was unaware the Pul-i-Charkhi prison was tax defaulter, adding he would look into the issue.
