Taliban often try to capture Ghazni: Governor

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): The governor on Tuesday said the Taliban had every year tried to capture southern Ghazni province but failed to do so.

Addressing a gathering here, Abdul Karim Mateen said besides the Taliban other militant groups were active in Ghazni, intimidating people.

He, however, said: “No Daesh rebels exist in Ghazni, they are in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces.”

Mateen said the Taliban every year tried to capture Ghazni, but security forces always frustrated their intention.

He strongly rejected news that some check-posts in Qarabagh and other localities had fallen into the hands of insurgents.

Acting police chief Mustafa Mayar said Taliban spared no effort to capture or destabilize Ghazni.

“Our security forces have always been ready for the defence of the country and they will not allow the Taliban to create chaos and instability,” he said.

Mayar added security forces faced no issue regarding equipment and great coordination existed among them.

It is pertinent to mention here that clashes and incidents of insecurity have recently increased in Ghazni province.
