MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Two people were shot dead by unidentified gunmen while an elderly man was severely beaten by an upraising group commander in northwestern Faryab province, officials said on Saturday.
Local officials said the two men were killed in the Kata Qala area of Pashtoon Kot district on Friday afternoon.
Pashtoon Kot’s acting administrative chief, Abdur Rahim Uzbek Oghli, said one of the victims, Abdul Basir, was an uprising member in Kata Qala area and the other man, Asadullah, a civilian from Balcheragh district.
A tribal elder from Balcheragh, who wished to go unnamed, said Asadullah was a Taliban fighter before joining uprising group. He was on a trip to Iran when stopped and shot dead, he said.
No militant group has so far commented on the incident.
Elsewhere in the province, a resident of Qaisar district claimed he was severely beaten up by an uprising commander.
Abdul Salam, 50, a resident of the Bura area of the district, alleged the uprising commander, Abdur Rahman having links with the district chief, had beaten him without any reason.
“I don’t know my crime. He thrashed me in front of my family’s women and children. He wanted to kill me. He also beat and took away one of my 13 years old sisters-in-law. Her fate is still unclear,” he said.
The Qaisar district’s administrative chief, Rahmatullah Qaisari, confirmed Abdul Salam was beaten by uprising group members.
Three days back, a man and his two children were killed by illegal gunmen in the Qaisar district of Faryab. Relatives of the victims placed the bodies in front of the governor’s house and accused Abdur Rahman of the murders.
