MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): An official from the Population Registration Authority (PRA) said on Wednesday that the department is fully prepared for the distribution of the much awaited computarised identity cards.
Although he did point out some technical difficulties, he added that PRA is hopeful that everything would be set up on time for the process to begin.
Mohammad Karim Seghani, the Deputy Director of the PRA, while inaugurating the newly constructed provincial building in northern Balkh province, said that no serious issues are being encountered regarding the country-wide distribution of computarised identity card.
He said they are currently waiting for the decision of the joint commission of the Wolesi Jirga (the upper house),which will decide the fate of the Population Registration Law.
The Wolesi Jirga had earlier rejected the presidential legislative decree regarding the amendment to the census law, but the Mesharano Jirga had approved it. Now a joint commission of the two houses has been convened to take the final decision.
The distribution of the computarised identity card become controversial over the induction of religion, nationality and ethnic identify, which has prevented its initiationfor the past few years.
