KABUL (Pajhwok): A leading telecom firm on Wednesday announced signing a partnership agreement on having Facebook servers placed in its data centres in the country.
The partnership is designed to provide faster and higher-quality access to Facebook’s social network content for Roshan’s customers nationwide. There are about six million Facebook users in Afghanistan.
Roshan’s official Facebook page, @RoshanConnects, has more than 1.3 million followers, the largest in Afghanistan’s private sector and the fastest-growing brand page on Facebook in the country.
“Only a few years ago, the idea of having access to any form of social media seemed remote. Today, the adoption of social media applications is growing rapidly. Roshan is committed to ensuring the best quality and experience for our customers,” said Altaf Ladak, deputy CEO of the company.
He added: “Roshan has always spearheaded the use of new technologies and applications and we actively use Facebook as a way to communicate and share information with our customers. This agreement reinforces the fact that the digital revolution is a reality in Afghanistan.”
Since its inception in 2003, Roshan has been actively working to partner with the world’s leading technology companies to bring international standards and innovative solutions to Afghanistan and leverage its technology and network to improve lives.
Fortune Magazine has recognised the firm as one of the “Top 51 Companies Changing the World” in 2015. Similarly, Fast Magazine ranked Roshan as one of the world’s “Top 10 Most Innovative Companies of 2015 in Social Good.”
