PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): About 48,000 refugees returned in 2017 to their homeland from Pakistan under the voluntary repatriation programme, a senior government official said on Monday.
In 2016, some 400,000 Afghan refugees had been repatriated under the same programme, the official told Pajhwok Afghan News on condition of anonymity.
The voluntary repatriation programme has been suspended since October due to the harsh winter in Afghanistan. The process is expected to resume in March 2018.
