Habib Gulzar Company be compensated, decides HEC

KABUL (Pajhwok): The High Economic Council (HEC) on Sunday decided to compensate and restore the dignity of the Habib Gulzar Company, saying no organ or person could make an arbitrary decision against a company.

A statement from the Presidential Palace to Pajhwok Afghan News said President Ghani chaired the HEC meeting on Sunday, in which investment of Habib Gulzar Company in Afghanistan was discussed.

The company has signed an agreement with Nestle in 2015, based on which Habib Gulzar Company would invest $60 million in Nestle products in Afghanistan over the next five years.

Habib Gulzar Company officials have said the company was launched with initial investment of $30 million in dried milk, liquid milk and milk cream in 2017.

However, some government organs in December 2017 released unconfirmed reports about the poisonous of substances in products belonged to Habib Gulzar Company, an issue that seriously damaged the company’s credibility.

The officials of the company have asked the government to take to justice those behind the false reports about the quality of their products as well as compensate losses the company suffered as result of its defamation.

Today’s meeting of the HEC at the end decided the Habib Gulzar and Nestle companies issue should be seriously investigated and their dignity rehabilitated.

President Ashraf Ghani said the government was supporting private sector investment in all parts.

The meeting also decided a specific mechanism should be created so individuals, organs or groups were not able to make arbitrary judgments about companies. Any decision made should be based on the law.

On the other hand, Afghanistan Railway Authority (ARA) presented the Afghanistan Railway Law to the HEC meeting. The meeting decided the draft law would be shared with the Cabinet for finalization.
