KABUL and India are faced with common challenges, including extremism and terrorism.

Both nations were fed up with their common neighbour, the ex-president said in an interview published on Wednesday. He used the euphemism of the common neighbour for Pakistan

India was the first country that started helping Afghanistan during his presidential tenure in rebuilding its infrastructure, Karzai told India Today after addressing Saint Peters College students in Agra.

He wanted Afghan children to study in India, where respect for elders was taught as the first moral principle. India had a treasure of thousands of years of civilisation, culture and education, he said.

Karzai said young leaders in the fields of education, society should come forward to provide a new direction to their conflict-devastated country.
