MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Taliban insurgents have overrun a strategic area of the Khwaja Sabzposh district of northwestern Faryab province, local official said on Sunday.
A credible source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the Taliban captured the Qara-i-Sheikhi area of the district at around 10pm on Saturday night.
The insurgents claimed killing six Afghan soldiers, catching another four alive, seizing four tanks, a mortar, a machine gun and four rifles from the security personnel based in the locality.
According to local officials, the militants also suffered heavy casualties during the overnight firefight, but they did not give exact figures.
