KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): The governor of southern Kandahar province has said no hurdle or delay existed in implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and work on the project would be completed in complete coordination.
Zalmai Weesa expressed these view during a meeting with individuals in-charge of different parts of the pipeline implementation work.
He said TAPI was an international project and there was no hurdle in its way in Kandahar province.
Weesa was talking days after five TAPI workers were killed by unidentified gunmen, while one worker was kidnapped in Maiwand district on Monday.
Weesa said the multi-national pipeline would pass through six districts of Kandahar and there was need for work to increase awareness among people.
Deputy Governor Abdul Hanan Munib also briefed the meeting about formation of a joint working committee to be comprised of related officials and representatives from government and private sector.
He said security was most important aspect of the project and the provincial government was striving to ensure safety of the workers.
He added the joint committee would hold consecutive meetings to ensure all affairs went smoothly.
Efforts for security of TAPI project were intensified after the killing of the five demining workers in Malang Karez area.
Security officials say investigation is underway to identify who killed the workers.
