KABUL-led Resolute Support mission has been extended by three months, a media report says.
Eleven New Zealanders are currently serving in Afghanistan to help train local security forces alongside about 300 Australian soldiers.
According to NZTV, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced on Monday the mission had been extended to September 30 to consider broader issues in the region.
She told reporters: "This [extension] will allow us a little extra time to consider further advice on Afghanistan in light of other deployment decisions."
