KABUL on Wednesday tasked its two commissions with assessing the detention of Nizamuddin Qaisariand and protests in northern provinces seeking his release.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) recently announced detaining  Qaisari, commander of illegal armed group in Faryab, Mohammad Daud Mubariz who sold weapons and security posts to Taliban in Farah province, Rahimullah, an illegal commander in Uruzgan province and Nader Shah, a smuggler of precious stones and drugs in Badakhshan.

However, a number of people in the northern zone of the country have been staging protests against detention of Qisari and demanding his release.

Nizamuddin Qaisari, one of Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum commanders, has been spearheading upraising groups (pro-government militias) in Qaisar district of Faryab.

Hamayon Hamayon, first deputy speaker of the lower house, told today’s session: “We cannot judge whether Qaisari is a criminal or not, the weapons with Qaisari were distributed by the government, a delegation from the lower house should be tasked to closely assess the issue.”

“Protests in the north should not be taken easy, it may expand to other provinces and the problem may turn serious,” he said.

Hamayon directed the house defense and internal security commissions and lawmakers from Faryab to travel to the province and assess the detention of Qaisari and the ongoing protests there.

Hundreds of people have been staging protests in Bamyan, Faryab, Jawzjan, Sar-i-Pul, Balkh and Takhar provinces over the past nine days, demanding release of Qaisari.

A number of protestors in Faryab and Sar-i-Pul today shut the Independent Election Commission (IEC) gates in their provinces and torched their voter cards.
