IECC warns candidates against offering bribes

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Wednesday warned disqualifying candidates against offering bribes to be included in the already-announced primary list of runners in the upcoming elections.

IECC chief Abdul Aziz Aryabi told reporters here so far 200 complaints registered against candidates had been approved, scrutinized and analyzed.

He said in coordination with security institutions, a final decision regarding the complaints would be taken in two days.

Aryabi alleged reports had surfaced that some candidates wanted to offer bribes to IECC officials in order to invalidate complaints against them.

He warned if such corruption allegations against candidates were proven, their names would be immediately removed from the list.

He also warned IECC employees against indulging in any misconduct or corrupt practices, as such deals would be considered disloyalty with the country and immediate legal action would be taken against them.

IECC spokesman Ali Raza Rohani said a total of 883 complaints had been registered against the IECC, out of which 200 were being evaluated by a special commission.

He said the president had recently approved names of 27 provincial IECC commissioners and new list for appointment of the remaining commissioners would be sent to the Presidential Palace soon.

He asked the government to appoint the remaining commissioners soon.
