JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department in eastern Nangarhar province says 55 reconstruction projects are currently being implementated at the cost 552 million afghanis.
Eng. Mujeeb Rahman Zia, the provincial RRD’s head, told Pajhwok Afghan News during an exclusive interview that the projects would to be completed this year would benefit 1,800 villages of all districts except Hesarak and Sherzad.
Zia hoped they would be able to establish a Citizen Charter Programme, build rural roads, supply drinking water, support the handicraft industry, forge regional coordination, deliver sustainable energy services in 20 districts of the province.
The official recalled 150 projects worth more than one billion were implemented last year in 20 districts except Hesarak and Shirzad districts of the province.
Also last year, he said, 95 projects were executed and 55 others were in the process of implementation at a tootle cost of 552 million afghanis. The schemes include rural roads, bridges, deep wells, mosques, water supply and school buildings.
Funds for the projects were provided by the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development (MRRD), Zia said, promising some plans would be initiated in the province in near future.
Currently the Citizen Charter Programme has been underway in eight districts of the province. Another 400 projects would be implemented in a number of other district soon.
