JALALABAD (Pajhwok): At least 15 people, including two Taliban insurgents, have been killed in a special forces’ operation in eastern Nangarhar province, officials said on Wednesday.
Ajmal Omar, a member of the provincial council, told Pajhwok Afghan News the special forces conducted the operation in the Wadisar area of Sherzad district of late on Monday night.
He said 15 people were killed, including two militant, elderly individuals and children -- a claim endorsed by tribal elder Abdul Majeed Khogyani.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok the operation was conducted without coordination with the governor’s office and an investigation was underway. He was unaware of casualties.
