Nuristan: Road, bridge costing 61.9m afs inaugurated

PAROON (Pajhwok): A road and a bridge were inaugurated on Friday after their completion at a cost of 61.9 million afghanis in eastern Nuristan province. The 16.5-kilomteter road took one year to complete at a cost of 45.4 million afghanis under the Rural Rehabilitation and Development Ministry’s national rural program, said the governor’s spokesman, Mohammad Saeed Momand.

The road in Kantiwa valley near Paroon, the provincial capital, is separated from the main Asadabad-Paroon highway. A kilometer portion of the road was constructed by local residents.

The spokesman said engineers were surveying the remaining roads and routes in Kantiwa valley and work on them would be launched soon. He said a retaining wall and 45 culverts, small bridges and car wash centers were built as part of the road project.

The road connects 30 big and small villages.

Also a 40-meter bridge built at the starting point of the Kantiwa road was inaugurated on the Paroon river.

The governor spokesman said the bridge was constructed during a period of one year at a cost of 16.3 million afghanis.
