Crimes against women: 9 persons jailed in Nangarhar

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): The appellate court of eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday sentenced nine people, including a woman, from four to 20 years in jail for crimes against women, including murder.

Nangarhar governor’s spokesman, Attaullah Khogyani, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the appellate court’s prevention of violence against women’s section handed down the verdict on Tuesday.

Two of the convicts were sentenced to 20 years in jail each in murder cases and four others sent to jail for 16 years each for killing two women in separate incident.

A woman was sentenced to seven years in jail over complicity in a woman’s murder case and two men were sentenced to five years in jail for kidnapping a woman and rapping her, the governor’s spokesman said.

Khogyani said the verdicts were not final and could be challenged.
