Islamabad renews support for TAPI gas pipeline project

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Islamabad has reaffirmed its support for the early completion of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

Petroleum Ghulam Sarwar Khan reiterated support for the project at a meeting with Turkmenistan’s Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The ambassador appreciated the progress being made in Pakistan on the TAPI gas pipeline. He was assured Pakistan remained committed to the implementation of the pipeline project.

Sarwar Khan called the project vital to Pakistan’s energy portfolio and a catalyst for closer regional integration, peace and harmony. The Petroleum Division and TAPI Pipeline Corporation will sign a document soon.

Movlamov said that Turkmenistan’s economy heavily depended on oil and gas. Through the pipeline, he said, Pakistan would receive 1300 million cubic feet of gas.
