Khalid, Miller attend Kandahar security briefing

KANDAHAR (Pajhwok): Acting defense minister Asadullah Khalid and US and NATO Gen. Scott Miller on Thursday attended a security meeting in southern Kandahar province, an official said.

Afghan National Army’s 205 Atal Military Corps commander Gen. Imam Nazar Behbud and Kandahar police chief Brig. Gen. Tadin Khan also attended the meeting, said the corps spokesman, Sadiq Esa.

Gen. Behbud briefed the meeting about security operations and said they planned 81 operations in Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan and Daikundi provinces this ongoing solar year and two operations were still ongoing in Kandahar province.

He said currently 1001 new soldiers were under training and a number of previous batches had been deployed after completing training.

Tadin Khan said coordination among the security organs in Kandahar had improved and police were fully cooperating with the military in security operations.

Acting Defense Minister Asadullah Khalid issued directives to the security officials about improvement in the security situation.
