Released by Renegades, Nabi joins national squad

KABUL (Pajhwok): Released by the Melbourne Renegades, all-rounder Mohammad Nabi is set to join the national cricket squad.

He will miss the Big Bash League (BBL) finals series after his release at the request of the Afghanistan Cricket Board, the Guardian reported on Saturday.

Afghanistan are to play a series featuring three Twenty20 matches, five one day games and a Test match against Ireland. The series will begin with a T20I in India on February 21.

“We’re disappointed to lose a player on the eve of the finals series but we understand the rules around international call-ups,” the Melbourne Renegades coach said

Andrew McDonald was quoted as saying there could be some unpredictability around when players were called into camp.

He hailed Nabi as a valuable contributor throughout the season. His skills with the bat and ball as well as leadership abilities would be missed, the coach added.

“We are proud of the way we have been able to cover the absence of key players throughout the season and we’re confident in the depth of our squad.”
