KABUL on Thursday expressed its condolences over the death of former president Sibghatullah Mujaddedi.
In a statement, R. Bass extended sincere condolences to the Afghan people and to the family of Mujaddedi, who was laid to rest on Wednesday
Through his long career in public service and education, Mujaddedi served as a staunch advocate for Afghanistan, the ambassador said.
The statement quoted Bass as saying: “From serving as chairman of the Loya Jirga, Mujaddedi was invested in creating a peaceful future for all Afghans.”
The US diplomat said: “We join the people of Afghanistan in remembering President Sibghatullah Mujaddedi on this national day of mourning.”
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Foreign Office also extended deepest condolences over the sad demise of Mujaddedi. Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said his thoughts and prayers were with the bereaved families.
