LASHKAGAH (Pajhwok): At least 10 people including seven of them women and Afghan forces in Greshk district of southern Helmand province, officials said Thursday.
Governor’s spokesman, Omar Zwak, told Pajhwok Afghan News that Afghan forces and the Taliban engaged in a fight in Greshk district of the province late on Wednesday.
He said that 10 people including seven women were killed when a mortar shell hit a house during the battle.
“It is unclear who fired the mortar shell,” he said, adding a team was tasked for investigating into the incident and information on the regard would be shared later with the media.
On the other hand, President Ashraf Ghani also condemned the incident and ordered a team to investigate about it.
Taliban did not comment yet on the incident.
Fight between the Taliban and Afghan forces recently intensified in Helmand and dozens of soldiers have so far killed or wounded.
