Labor class needs more attention, insists Danish

KABUL (Pajhwok): Second vice-president Sarwar Danish, while introducing new acting labor and social affairs minister, on Monday said Afghan laborers were not given their due rights.

The new minister, Sayed Anwar Sadat, replaces Faizullah Zaki who held the portfolio for two years

Danish, who introduced Sadat to the ministry officials, said the labor and social affairs ministry had somehow improved its regulations and laws but still most of Afghan workers remained deprived of their rights.

“The ministry has achievements but Afghan laborers still do not receive their rights which should be given to them,” he said.

He asked the new acting labor and social affairs minister to pay attention to the issue.

Danish said control of market, implementation of laws and addressing problems of laborers required more care.

The VP said addressing problems concerning children, people with disabilities and orphans were also the responsibility of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs and said the Children’s Rights Support Commission should start functioning soon.

He asked the new acting labor and social affairs minister to work for creating jobs, supporting labor rights and creating good relations between the employers and the employees.

For his part, Sayed Anwar Sadat said, “We will try to support laborers rights and bring social justice.” He said he would also try to expand the ministry’s programs.

Former labor and social affairs minister Faizullah Zaki said he had great achievements for his ministry during his two years in office.

“Besides in domestic area, our ministry was able to have a great position in the outside world,” he said without giving details.
