Foreign diplomats briefed on Loya Jirga’s decisions

KABUL.

The historic peace summit ended on Friday with delegates from across Afghanistan demanding an immediate and permanent ceasefire.

About 3,200 religious, tribal leaders, politicians and representatives deliberated on finding a breakthrough in Afghanistan's grueling conflict.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the assembly, President Ashraf Ghani said he was ready to implement the fair and legitimate demand for a ceasefire but stressed it could not be unilateral.

The Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday said foreign diplomats based in Kabul were briefed and provided information about the decisions of the Loya Jirga.

The briefing was presided over by acting minister and deputy foreign minister for political affairs Idrees Zaman.

High Peace Council secretary and Loya Jirga convention commission chief Omar Daudzai was also present on the occasion.

Zaman provided detailed information to the foreign diplomats about the Loya Jirga’s significance, participants and decisions.

Questions posed by the diplomats were also answered, the statement said.
