KABUL (Pajhwok): Currently attending a two-day conference in Moscow, ex-president Hamid Karzai wants Russia to play a greater role in promoting the Afghan peace process.

He issued the call while addressing an event marking the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Afghanistan.

Sputnik quoted Karzai as supporting deeper and more cooperative ties between the two nations. “Afghanistan has already cordial relations with Russia.

“From the Afghan people’s point of view, an inclusive relation has advantages and we want a friendly relationship with all countries, especially the countries of the region,” he added.

Karzai also suggested an active role of powerful countries like China and Russia in establishing peace in Afghanistan and the region at large.

Ambassador Omar Zakhilwal, former vice-president Mohammad Yunus Qanuni, People's Islamic Unity Party head Mohammad Mohaqiq and other politicians are attending the 2nd Intra-Afghan Peace Conference in Moscow.
