MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Eleven civilians were killed Sunday morning when the vehicle they were travelling struck a roadside bomb in the Dawlatabad district of northern Balkh province, an official said.

The district administrative chief, Mohammad Yousuf, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident occurred in Haitan village at around 7: 00am.

He said the roadside bomb struck the vehicle carrying the civilians from Dawlatabad to Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital. Five members of a family were among the 11 people killed in the blast, he added.

Meanwhile, police spokesman Adil Shah Adil confirmed the incident, saying the bomb had been planted by Taliban militants. The Taliban, however,  have not yet commented on the claim.
