Assailants among 7 killed in Jalalabad attack

<p>JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Four people, including two civilians, and three <a href="/en/taliban" class="glossify-link">Taliban</a> attackers were killed during a bomb and gun attack on an electronic national identity card center in this capital city of eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday.</p>

<p>A dozen more people were wounded in the attack that began when a suicide bomber detonated his explosives at the entrance to the electronic national identity card office in Jalalabad at 1:30pm, said the governor.</p>

<p>Shah Mahmood Miakhel said after the suicide blast, two other attackers entered the facility but security forces were quick to reach the site and engage the assailants.</p>

<p>The governor said security forces moved to safety 50 workers of the identity card office and visitors. The wounded persons were taken to the civil hospital and most of them were discharged after treatment.</p>

<p>He said two officials of the ID card department and one child remained hospitalized for treatment of their injuries but their condition was out of danger.</p>

<p>Miakhel said: “Sadly two policemen and two civilians were martyred and one police injured in the incident.”</p>

<p>The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved families and thanked security forces for their timely action to neutralize the attack and rescue those trapped.</p>

<p>Deputy governor Tamim Arif Momand and Afghan Army’s fourth battalion commander Gen. Mohammad Karim Niazi were present on the occasion.</p>

<p>No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack that comes days ahead of this month’s presidential election.</p>
