KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): At least seven civilians were injured in an explosion in Spin Boldak district of southern Kandahar province on Wednesday, officials said.
The incident took place in Wesh Bazaar of the district in front of a hotel around 1pm today.
Kandahar governor’s spokesman, Baheer Ahmadi, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident happened when explosives attached to a motorcycle went off.
He said seven civilians sustained injuries in the blast. It is unclear who the target of the attack was, he added.
However, a security official of Spin Boldak district who wished to go unnamed, said that Zalmai, brother of former police chief of eighth police district of Kandahar city was the target, who was survived.
Haji Jajo, former police chief of eighth police district of Kandahar city was killed in a suicide attack three years ago.
Officials in Spin Boldak Civil Hospital confirmed receiving seven wounded people from the incident.
No groups have so far claimed responsibility for the attack.
