PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Qaumi Watan Party Chairman Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has asked the government to take serious steps to normalise ties with Afghanistan.
Peace in Pakistan was directly linked to stability in Afghanistan, Sherpao told a delegation of Akakhel Ittehad in the northwestern city of Peshawar
While seeking the revival of the Afghan peace process, he called for inclusive negotiations based on input from all stakeholders to restore stability to the war-torn country.
“Pakistan will face consequences of the spillover of violence from Afghanistan if efforts are not made to end hostilities,” he warned.
The QWP leader claimed his party had always worked for the restoration of peace in Afghanistan and it would continue to play an effective role in bringing stability to the neighbouring country.
He urged the government to help restart the Afghan peace negotiations as peace was a prerequisite for regional development.
Islamabad should promote people-to-people and government-to-government contacts with Kabul besides promoting trade ties, he suggested.
