 NELLI (Pajhwok): The Education Department of central Daikundi province on Saturday asked well-off individuals to contribute to construction of school buildings in the province.

Education Director Rahmatullah Serat told Pajhwok Afghan News currently 457 schools were operational in the province, but 23 of them were without buildings and students these schools continued their education in mosques, tents or under the open sky.

He said a total of 164,000 student studied in Daikundi schools, with girls making 50 percent of them.  According to Serat, 30,000 eligible students in Daikundi are deprived of education.

He said long distance to schools, lack of school buildings, poverty and economic problems were reasons that kept eligible students out of schools.

He praised Haji Younis’s initiative to build a school in Patawi district and said: “Haji Younis initiative needs to be praised and I want other well-off persons to contribute to construction of schools.”

Serat said Haji Younis had purchased land for a school and provided financial support to the school’s construction.

Haji Younis told Pajhwok Afghan News: “After observing problems and difficulties faced by students, I decided to build a school building for them.”
