Clash ongoing in Khakrez after attack on military base

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Insurgents launched a car bomb attack on a base of security forces in southern Kandahar province on Sunday.

Bahir Ahmadi, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the explosives-laden vehicle was hit by the security personnel before it reached the target.

As the vehicle exploded at the base in Khakrez district, a gunbattle erupted between the two sides. The clash was still ongoing, Ahmadi said.  

The official added reinforcements were on their way to the Sharghi area of the district. Information regarding casualties is not available so far.
