KABUL so far but preventive measures have been taken for its possible outbreak.
Health authorities around the world are taking action to prevent a global pandemic as the new virus continues to spread, with cases reported in Australia, France, the United States and seven Asia countries besides China.
According to reports, the virus has killed so far 41 people. China asked its people not to travel to Wuhan city of the country where the virus first surfaced and also asked residents of this city to stay inside. So far, 500 of people infected with the virus has been confirmed.
Habib Arwal, in charge of diseases control in MoPH, told Pajhwok Afghan News, , “The spread of this virus is not a matter of high concern for us, but we have to take preventive measures and that is the reason we took some steps.”
He said a joint meeting of the ministry and World Health Organization (WHO) was held today in the ministry and it was decided that a technical team should be tasked in the country’s airports to examine passengers entering Afghanistan.
He said the ministry was also working on preparing some messages to spread public awareness for prevention of coronavirus disease through media.
WHO has promised to help in diagnosing the disease outside of Afghanistan if a suspicious case surfaces, he said.
Arwal said the country’s hospitals were directed to take needed measures and contact MoPH as soon as possible if such cases happen.
He asked people to observe sanity and refer to healthcare centers if they are affected by cold related diseases.
Dr. Firozuddin Firoz, public health minister, talking to reporters in the parliament today, said, “We did not see any effects here and none of our citizen is infected with the virus, it is not very serious, we hope the virus would be controlled in China as well.”
He also said technical teams were tasked in all airports of the country to examine passengers arriving from China.
“If a person is found infected with the virus, he/she would be quarantined, we also had meetings with WHO and the country’s public health minister sought its assistance,” he said.
Headache, cough, sore throat, fever and a general feeling of being unwell are said to be signs of the coronavirus infection. Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) is another sign of the virus infection.
How the virus could be controlled?
There are no any vaccines available for battling this virus, therefore fast diagnosis and treatment in quarantine are the only solutions.
