LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): At least five police personnel have been killed as a result of a roadside bombing in southern Helmand province, an official said on Wednesday.

A security official, who declined to be named, told Pajhwok Afghan News a police pick-up struck the bomb in the Hazar Asp area of Nawa district on Tuesday night.

The official, who did not want to be named, said five policemen were killed and their vehicle destroyed by the overnight explosion.

Meanwhile, the governor’s spokesman confirmed the incident but said nothing about casualties.

The Taliban, meanwhile, claimed credit for the bombing. The group’s spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said the movement’s fighters had attacked the police vehicle.
