PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): The Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline project (TAPI) has been hailed will help bring peace and prosperity to the region, experts believe.
At a session in Islamabad, experts called the mega energy project a beacon for peace and stability and a clean source of energy.
Gen. (retd) Syed Khalid Amir Jaffery, opening the session, said: “The TAPI project is a game changer for the region.”
The pipeline would transport up to 33 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Turkmenistan to the three other countries, he said.
Muhammetmyrat Amanov, CEO of the TAPI Board Company Limited (TPCL), was the chief guest at the session, organised by the Center for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS).
Turkmenistan Ambassador Atadjan Movlamov said his country had rich gas reserves which could be shared with regional states for enhanced cooperation. He added TAPI was a win-win project for all countries.
Amanov hailed the project as a beacon for stability. It would bring direct and indirect social, economic, political and environmental benefits to the region, he hoped.
Afghanistan will benefit from billions of dollars in transit fees. The project contracts will be awarded to contractors from Germany, Italy, Greece and Turkey.
