Kunar gears up to stop coronavirus entry

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A partial lockdown has been imposed in eastern Kunar province to prevent the coronavirus from entering the province.

Soon after the announcement, shops, hotels and other places of mass gathering were closed in Asadabad, the provincial capital.

Mayor ObaidullahSapi said except medicine, food, vegetable and bakery stores, all other shops would stay closed.

He said strong action would be taken against individuals who opened their shops or attended mass gatherings.

Deputy Governor Dr. Gul Mohammad Baidar said special measures had been taken by the provincial administration after the coronavirus entered Afghanistan.

He said few stores in Asadabad City would stay open to sell essential daily use commodities.

Kunar is gearing up preparations for coronavirus at a time when no suspected or positive case of the virus has been registered.

Currently, 84 positive cases of coronavirus have been registered in the country.
