Kabul not serious to fight virus in Herat: PC

<p>HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): The Provincial Council (PC) head of western Herat province on Tuesday accused the central government of negligence in dealing with coronavirus in the province.</p>

<p>PC head Kamran Alizai told reporters that the central government had allocated 400 million afghanis to fight coronavirus without having the authority to spend this amount.</p>

<p>He asked the president to give the situation in Herat serious attention and issue special decree to allow the utilization of available fund.</p>

<p>Referring to curbs on people’s movement over coronavirus fears, he criticized the restrictions, saying the government had not actually helped the province.</p>

<p>He said the government was not serious about people’s lives and what they eat when stay home.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, Herat residents complained about poverty and restrictions on their movement.</p>

<p>Wakeel Ahmad, a daily wager, said: “We have no bread to eat, the government has shut down the whole city, what our children eat now? We have nothing to eat.”</p>

<p>Herat Governor Abdul Qayyoum Rahimi acknowledged some challenges and added every poor family had been distributed aid package.</p>

<p>He also confirmed allocation of millions of afghanis but did not give clear answer regarding how the fund should be used.</p>

<p>“Funds have been allocated to the province, the <a href="/en/health" class="glossify-link">health</a> ministry also sent its funds, but about their utilization I want to tell Heratis that there should be transparency. I have signed the use of 150 million afghanis,” he said.</p>
